Michael McDermott was appointed as the Chief of Police for the Federalsburg Police Department in November, 2018. He is a 40-year veteran law enforcement professional with an extensive background in administration, patrol, investigations, and special operations. Chief McDermott retired as a division commander for the Worcester County Sheriff's Office in 2018 following a distinguished and decorated career. He is a former Chief of Police for the Town of Snow Hill, Maryland and a former Chief of Police for the Town of Holly Springs, North Carolina.
Chief McDermott spent many years as a detective and supervisor for a multi-jurisdictional major crimes task force. He holds a degree in Criminal Justice from Wake Technical College in Raleigh, North Carolina and is a Veteran of the United States Army. Chief McDermott has previously served as an elected State Delegate in the Maryland General Assembly.
